I'm a bit late to the party thinking abut Autumn as we've had such a lovely warm September. But now that the equinox has been and gone, and the days are getting shorter and chillier, it's time to have a think about how we can reset our homes for the new season.

Create social furniture configurations

We'll be spending more evenings indoors curled up on the sofa for the foreseeable, so rearranging the armchairs and sofas is a great way to mix things up and create a cosier and more homely, inviting feel. Bringing pieces closer together and positioning sofas and armchairs so they face each other to create zones is a simple change.

Update your lighting for added cosy

Introduce temporary fixes such as candles, little battery powered table lamps and fairy lights to warm up the vibe. Forget about the overhead light and lean into pools of 'ambient' light balanced evenly across the room. It'll make all the difference during the darker months. Bring in texture and warm shades

Accessorise to the max. Layer textures with new throws and cushions and swap out your rug for something deeper, bolder, warmer and more textured. Remember to always go for a feather filled cushion for a cosy feel, they shape so much better. And add a frill for extra texture. I love these cushions from Ellenvale Interiors. Restyle your shelves with a different set of vases and ornaments in warm, saturated colours, such as mustard yellows, terracottas, dirty pinks, browns, burgundies and rusty reds. Swapping out your lampshades for something more textured is another simple fix, think velvet, a slubby linen, wool or boucle. And why not add a fabulous Autumn wreath or garland above the fireplace for some real seasonal drama.

Introduce a seasonal scent
